Which kinds of carbon steel material are
being used for steel ball production? There are mainly AISI1010, 1015, 1045,
1065 and 1085 (the carbon content is increasing from 1010 to 1085). 1010 and
1015 are low carbon steel, 1045 and 1065 are middle carbon steel, while 1085 is
high carbon steel. These materials are used for different applications due to
different characters, advantages and disadvantages, and it’s same for being
used for balls’ production.
The low carbon steel balls can also be
divided into heat treated low carbon steel ball (which is also called hard
ball) and not heat treated low carbon steel (which is also called iron ball),
depending on heat treatment or not. Heat treated low carbon steel, hardness
varies from HRC58-65, mainly being used for grinding, simple bearing and
hardware and etc. Not heat treated low carbon steel balls, hardness is around
HRC27, mainly being used for welding, weight balance, toy, hardware, electronic
industry and etc.
